Under his guidance, the CSC competitive forensics team was started, the Post Playhouse grew in popularity and the department graduated numerous majors in theatre education. He was best known for his large-scale musicals, his expertise in interpretive theatre and the growth he brought to the Post Playhouse program. Lucille Wheeler was the vice president of bookkeeping at the Bank of Chadron, but to the theatre students, Lucy was the person who created beautiful costumes for them to wear. Fred retired in the early 1990s and they both remained in Chadron until their deaths. Fred and Lucy were lifetime companions who enjoyed each other's company, interests and hobbies.
